Leadership Development Programs
We believe that camp isn't just for kids! Recognizing a need for discipleship and leadership training for older teenagers, we added our first leadership development program in 1977.
Today, we have three programs, SALT and LDP at Brookwoods and Deer Run and WILD (Wilderness Intensive Leadership Program) at Moose River Outpost.
The SALT program (Servant And Leadership Training) is a four-week, two summer experience for 16-17 year old boys and girls, typically rising high school juniors and seniors. With Brookwoods and Deer Run as their home base, the SALT program allows campers to take their camp experience to the next level. Participants will grow in their faith through spending time in God’s word, hiking and camping, self-discovery through self-assessment, team building and leadership training, and putting their faith into practice in new ways. The capstone experience is a week-long service opportunity outside of camp. Five boys and five girls are selected through a competitive application process. Check out what SALTers have to say about their experience. NOTICE: DUE TO EXISTING COVID TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS, SALT MIGHT NOT BE OFFERED IN 2023. We hope to be able to announce a decision in November.
The LDP (Leadership Development Program) is an eight-week, two summer program. This co-ed program is comprised of teenagers, ages 16-17, typically rising high school juniors and seniors. This program provides campers with the opportunity to challenge themselves physically, intellectually, and most importantly, spiritually, through adventure. Program curriculum includes extended backpacking and canoeing trips, wilderness solo, lifeguard and first aid certification, Bible studies, group discussions, and reflection. The 24 person program (12 boys and 12 girls) are selected through a competitive application process.
Please note: Campers may apply to more than one leadership program. There is one online application for SALT, LDP and WILD (MRO), and they can rank order their program preference. For additional program descriptions and a matrix to help you decide if one of these programs is for you, click HERE.
