Horsemanship Program

Horsemanship is a big part of our camp tradition and sets us apart from other New England camps. In 1964 we opened our own stables, the same year as Deer Run opened.

Our horsemanship program is designed to help campers develop riding skills, horsemanship, grooming, safety, and care of horses. Instruction is based on English style riding and campers are split into skill level groups: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Campers do not have to have any prior experience and every summer we always have first-time riders!

Our current barn and riding corral were built in 2008 and we feel is the nicest camp riding facility in New England. The stable can house up to 14 horses and includes an enclosed tack room and a bathroom. The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) trains our staff annually.

Campers must be 10 years of age or older by June 1st in order to participate. Horseback riding is not part of the regular camp program and there is an additional charge. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to 32 participants per two-week session.
