Ways to Support Camp and “Join the Journey!”
Thank you for exploring the ways you can support the ministry of Camp Brookwoods, Deer Run, and Moose River Outpost. When you partner with us, we say you “Join the Journey” of thousands who have been impacted by this ministry as we come alongside campers and staff on their journeys of faith. It is our hope that you will be drawn closer to Christ as you give to share his love with others.
We donate so camp can continue to bring children to the Lord and grow their faiths in a tough and fallen world.”Camp Mom and Campfire Circle Donor

Pray for Us
We are always in need of prayer that we will continue to serve the Lord in all that we do, looking to Him for guidance and provision. Please pray for our Board of Directors, Executive Director, Tim Nielsen, and other staff as they seek to lead the ministry. Please also lift up all of our conference guests and campers in Maine and New Hampshire, that as they spend time on our beautiful properties, they would grow closer to Jesus and live lives that reflect His love and mercy.
Volunteer
We love our volunteers! At Camp Brookwoods, Deer Run, and Moose River Outpost, our volunteers pitch in to do all kinds of tasks to strengthen the ministry. Come and bake cookies to bless our college-aged staff or help us spruce up the grounds to prepare for our summer campers. We’d love to have you! Click here for current volunteer opportunities.
Give Stocks and Secruities
A Gift of Publicly-Traded Securities Could Be Right for You If:
- You own publicly-traded securities that you have owned for at least one year.
- The securities you own have increased in value since you bought them.
- Some of these securities will not yield the expected income amounts.
- A non-cash gift supporting the mission of Christian Camps and Conferences, Inc. fits your charitable goals and financial situation.

*Please note: To receive potential tax benefits in the current year, initiate security transfers early enough for the transfer to be completed by December 31. Allowing at least one week is recommended.
More Information
More Information
What are publicly-traded securities?
Publicly-traded securities include stocks, bonds, and other investment vehicles whose values are readily available through an established securities market. For example, stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange or NASDAQ are publicly traded.
Are mutual fund shares publicly-traded securities?
Although mutual funds are sold by individual mutual fund companies rather than on an exchange, similar charitable-contribution rules may apply. Gifts of mutual fund shares may offer many of the same potential tax benefits as gifts of individual securities.
What are the potential tax benefits of contributing publicly-traded securities?
Donating shares of a publicly-traded security that you have owned for more than one year may provide both an income-tax charitable deduction and relief from capital-gains tax.
What is the potential income-tax benefit?
Provided you itemize deductions, securities held for more than one year may generally qualify for a deduction based on their fair market value on the date of donation, regardless of the original purchase price.
The deduction may be subject to adjusted-gross-income limitations. Any unused portion may potentially be carried forward for up to five additional years.
What is the potential capital-gains tax benefit?
When you donate appreciated publicly-traded securities that you have owned for more than one year, you may avoid recognizing the capital gain that would normally result from selling the securities yourself.
Should I give my securities directly or sell them and donate the proceeds?
Giving appreciated securities directly to Christian Camps and Conferences, Inc. may allow you to avoid capital-gains tax on the appreciation.
Selling the securities first and donating the proceeds may cause you to owe capital-gains tax on the sale.
Cash Gift vs. Stock Gift:
| Cash Gift | Stock Gift | |
|---|---|---|
| a. Gift value | $10,000 | $10,000 |
| b. Income tax deduction | $10,000 | $10,000 |
| c. Income tax saved (at 37% rate)* | $3,700 | $3,700 |
| d. Purchase price | N/A | $1,000 |
| e. Increase in value (a – d) | N/A | $9,000 |
| f. Tax avoided on gain (at 20% rate) | N/A | $1,800 |
| g. Total tax savings (c + f)* | $3,700 | $5,500 |
*Assumes the donor itemizes deductions.
What is the advantage of giving appreciated stock instead of cash?
A charitable gift of cash may provide an income-tax charitable deduction. A gift of appreciated stock may provide a similar charitable deduction while also allowing you to avoid capital-gains tax on the appreciation.
The more highly appreciated the security, the greater the potential capital-gains tax savings may be.
Should I make a gift of securities that have lost value?
Usually, it may be more beneficial to sell securities that have decreased in value and donate the cash proceeds.
Selling the securities may allow you to use the capital loss to offset capital gains, while donating the proceeds may still qualify as a charitable contribution.
What happens if I give securities that I bought less than one year ago?
For securities owned for 12 months or less, the available charitable deduction may be limited to the lesser of the security’s current fair market value or its original purchase price.
For example, if stock currently worth $10,000 was purchased nine months ago for $1,000, the potential deduction may be limited to $1,000.
Is it easy to make a gift of publicly-traded securities?
Yes. Whether you plan to give one share or one thousand shares, your broker can generally transfer the securities electronically using the account information provided above.
Can I give securities and receive payments for life?
Another option may be to contribute securities through a life-income plan, such as a charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust, or pooled-income fund.
- You transfer securities to the life-income plan.
- The plan may defer or, in some cases, avoid capital gain associated with the contributed securities.
- You or another designated person receives payments from the plan during its term, often for life.
- When the plan ends, the remaining principal supports Christian Camps and Conferences, Inc.

Planned Giving – 1944 Heritage Society
The 1944 Heritage Society was established to honor those who have committed future funds to support Camp Brookwoods, Deer Run, and Moose River Outpost. Donors who contribute through a future planned gift or designate camp in their estate plans (like naming camp as a beneficiary in their will) are eligible for membership in the 1944 Heritage Society. This valued group of donors have chosen to ensure that future generations of campers will experience the love of Jesus and be transformed for Him in this special place. We are so grateful for those who have named camp as part of their personal legacy. If you would like to talk more about making a gift that will benefit future generations of campers, please give us a call at the office at 603-875-3600 or email Tim or Ann. (link to email)
If you have already made plans to include camp in your estate giving, would you please fill out the form here so we can have a record of your gift? Thank you!
