Groundbreaking for The Fieldhouse

By Bob Strodel, Director Emeritus

Saturday, November 4, 2023 was a significant day for Brookwoods and Deer Run campers.

Executive Director Tim  Nielsen, and the Board of Directors broke ground and started the construction for “The Fieldhouse”, which is scheduled to be completed sometime in summer of 2024.

The Fieldhouse is one of the largest final projects to be constructed as part of The Next75 Capital Campaign.  The facility will contain a gymnasium sized for regulation High School basketball, a fully equipped exercise room, a platform for performances, indoor climbing wall, locker rooms, a snack bar and a lobby.  It will be located near Deer Run Lodge in an area  that has been used for Riflery (1950’s till 1963), the Stables (1964 to 2007) and more recently, axe throwing.

Over 70 people attended the special event which was followed by a delicious lunch in the Dining Hall.  If you were not able to join us, the event was captured on video HERE.

The Next75 Capital Campaign was started in 2019 to prepare the ministry to better serve the next generation of campers at Brookwoods, Deer Run and Moose River Outpost.  The Next75 includes upgrades to cabins, new program elements, and scholarship funding.   If you have not yet had an opportunity to support this effort, we invite you to visit the website HERE to discover the details of the Campaign, and prayerfully consider how you might participate.

Bob Strodel was the Executive Director at Christian Camps and Conferences, Inc. for 30 summers, and last summer was his 50th at Camp! His favorite camp activity is model rockets.
