Meals at Camp: A Shared Experience

At Brookwoods, Deer Run, and Moose River Outpost, mealtimes are more than just a chance to refuel—they’re a community event. Our dining halls are among the only times each day when the whole camp gathers in one place, creating connection, excitement, and plenty of memories. Whether it’s singing songs, celebrating Taco Tuesday, or enjoying sticky-bun Sundays, camp food is part of the fun.

Across all three camps, we emphasize a healthy, active lifestyle supported by well-balanced meals, with accommodations for common food allergies and dietary needs. We’ve made the commitment to operate nut-free kitchens at Brookwoods and Deer Run. MRO also supports dietary needs to the best of our ability—please reach out if your camper has higher-level needs like contact or airborne allergies.

Family-style meals in the dining hall, buffet-style cookouts outside, and a full salad bar at lunch and dinner are staples across our camps. Breakfasts always include hot and cold options, cereal, fruit, and yogurt. And yes—campers will be well-fed and happy.

Brookwoods and Deer Run

Brookwoods takes pride in offering a variety of camper-approved favorites while maintaining balanced nutrition. Our Food Service Director, Eric Painter, leads a team committed to making every meal enjoyable and safe.

  • Breakfast includes a hot entrée, cereals, yogurt, and fruit.

  • Lunch and dinner feature a full salad bar and family-style entrees.

  • Apples are available daily after lunch.

  • Most special diets and common allergies are accommodated—contact us for more serious concerns.

The camp store is open three times a week after lunch or dinner, and campers choose two treats—candy, soda, or a slushie—on each visit. There is no charge for camp store items. Some evening programs may include additional snacks.

Email Eric Painter for food-related questions.

Moose River Outpost

MRO focuses on from-scratch, home-style cooking that fuels adventure and keeps our community happy. Our team avoids processed meals and emphasizes flavor, variety, and quality.

  • Camper favorites include burrito night and sticky-bun Sundays.

  • Most dietary needs can be accommodated—please note any concerns on your medical form.

  • For severe or airborne allergies, contact Seth Coates directly to confirm feasibility.

Meals are hearty and satisfying, and we’re always happy to talk through dietary needs before camp begins.
