Summer Camp Update: July 16th
Our first week in camp is nearly over, and what a week its been! The weather has been beautiful, with just a little rain yesterday morning breaking up an otherwise gorgeous week.
Over at the WILD site, trips are already underway. WILD 2 is paddling along the Maine coast in sea kayaks as we speak and will return early next week. The campers of WILD 1 have already summited Bald Mountain and are busy honing their camping skills – cooking over fires, setting up tents, and navigating Heald Pond in canoes.
Here in main camp, we’re busy with trips and events of our own. In activity areas, we’ve had a camper complete the first Masters Award of the summer. For details about our award system, click HERE. In addition to that, there have been several campers that have completed basics in camp favorites like archery, mountain biking, and survival. The woods are full of survival shelters built by our campers and yesterday’s rain proved that they are water tight.
Today, the girls of Baxter Cabin are out hiking Big Moose Mountain, and what a view they’ll have. Blue skies in every direction make for great hiking weather and perfect visibility. They won’t be the only ones enjoying the weather either. The boys of Penobscott are out on Burnt Jacket Mountain today. The path up the mountain winds through a mossy forrest and finishes with a beautiful view of camp, Attean Pond, and all the surrounding area.
God’s handiwork is surely on display all around us.
