A Day in the Life at Camp Brookwoods Christian Summer Camp For Boys
A Day in the Life at Camp Brookwoods Christian Summer Camp For Boys
A summer at Brookwoods is filled with adventure, lifelong friendship, faith, and personal growth. While life at our Christian summer camp is high-energy and full of activity , our daily schedule provides the structured routine and predictability that help children thrive.
Here is a look at what a typical, purposeful day looks like for a Brookwoods camper.
Morning Routines: Cultivating Faith and Responsibility
7:00 AM: Wake Up and Cabin Chores
The day begins at 7:00 AM. Campers use this quiet morning time for personal reflection, reading their Bibles, praying, or relaxing in their bunks.
Stewardship is a core value here. To cultivate responsibility, every camper volunteers to clean a specific area of the cabin to prepare for daily inspections. To keep things fun, the cleanest junior and senior cabins win exciting prizes at the end of each week.
7:45 AM: Morning Lineup and Flag Raising
At 7:35 AM, an airhorn signals that it is time to head to the backfield for lineup and roll call at 7:45 AM. During the lineup, we raise the American flag, make announcements, and share the day’s exciting agenda.
Afterward, designated cabin waiters head to the dining hall early to set the tables. This is another hands-on way we reinforce our values of stewardship and joyful service.
8:00 AM: Community Breakfast
Campers wash their hands and head into the dining hall for a nutritious breakfast. Each cabin sits together at round tables with six campers and one counselor. This intentional layout encourages eye contact and conversation, creating an inclusive community where lasting friendships are built.
Morning Worship and Bible Study
After breakfast, everyone gathers at our beautiful outdoor chapel for morning worship. We sing together from custom songbooks uniquely created for each summer.
At Brookwoods, we believe praising God should be fun, passionate, and exciting. Camp provides a safe, authentic environment where campers feel welcomed and accepted. This allows them to let go of self-image insecurities and focus entirely on honoring the Lord with a sincere heart posture.
Counselor-Led Youth Bible Studies
Following worship, campers return to their cabins for counselor-led devotions and Bible studies. Meticulously prepared for each age group, these studies teach campers about Jesus Christ and what it looks like to cultivate a personal relationship with Him.
Bible study strengthens cabin unity. It creates a supportive context where kids realize they aren’t alone in their spiritual questions, showing them that studying Scripture can be deeply rewarding and enjoyable.
Morning & Afternoon Adventures: Camp Activities and Free Period
After Bible study, campers head off to their morning activities. At the beginning of each week, campers choose three distinct activities to participate in for the entire week.
Our activity blocks offer a healthy mix of:
- Skill Progression & Mastery: Activities designed to teach new skill sets and build personal confidence.
- Recreation & Fun: High-energy activities designed purely for play and memory-making.
After two morning activity blocks, everyone returns to the dining hall for lunch.
Rest Hour and Afternoon Activities
Following lunch, a designated rest hour gives campers time to write letters home, read a book, or take a quick nap to recharge. Once rest hour finishes, campers head out to enjoy their third scheduled activity block of the day.
Open Waterfront (Free Period)
In the late afternoon, we transition into “free period” at the open waterfront. This block provides excellent personal freedom while continuing to foster community. Campers can customize their afternoon with several fun options:
- Waterfront Fun: Swimming in the lake, launching off the dive pier, jumping on the water blob, or playing beach volleyball.
- Indoor Fellowship: Boys can head to Moose Hall and girls to Deer Run Lodge to play foosball, ping-pong, or pool, read books, and unwind with friends.
Free period leads directly into evening flag-lowering and a delicious community dinner.
Evening Fellowships and Community Building
Once dinner concludes, the camp transitions into dynamic evening programs that rotate to build community on both a small and large scale:
- Cabin Nights: Counselor-led activities designed exclusively for a single cabin to help deep, personal relationships form naturally.
- Unit Nights: Large-group events that bring multiple cabins together for massive camp games and friendly competitions, building teamwork and sportsmanship.
Wilderness Trips and “Lazy Days”
Every two weeks, each cabin steps out of the regular routine to embark on an age-appropriate overnight wilderness trip. The shared experience of hiking a mountain, sleeping in a tent, and cooking over a camp stove teaches youth resilience, teamwork, and gratitude for life’s essentials. Most importantly, these trips immerse campers directly into God’s creation.
“Lazy Days” on Thursdays
To give our community a chance to breathe, Thursdays feature a slower, more restful schedule. Campers enjoy a flexible morning breakfast buffet so they can sleep in later. The day includes an encouraging Gospel message during all-camp chapel, large-group games, an extended afternoon rest hour, and extra time at the waterfront.
A Summer Experience That Lasts a Lifetime
Through daily worship, youth Bible studies, skill-building activities, and outdoor adventures, Brookwoods creates an intentional environment where campers grow spiritually, socially, and personally. We provide the perfect balance of structured routines and unforgettable fun to help children build resilience, deepen their faith, and make lifelong summer memories.
