Join Us for Family Work Weekend!

by Bob Strodel, Executive Director

It’s that time of the year again! Day by day it is getting warmer, the snow and ice are almost gone, and before you know it, summer will be here! In the meantime, we are all looking forward to what is approaching beforehand, Family Work Weekend!  This weekend will be an incredible chance to give back to Brookwoods and Deer Run by preparing for the upcoming summer! It will be a fun weekend to come together as families, to work hard, and enjoy God’s creation. (Not to mention there will be amazing food!)

We hope that you can join us at Camp, a place that God uses to shape and mold lives, including our own!  We will have some worship time each day and some opportunities to gather at night to fellowship.  The cost for the event is FREE.   If you and your family plan on eating LOTS of food, we will not refuse a small donation to help cover those costs.

WHO: Families, who love Camp Brookwoods, Deer Run and MRO that are ages 12 and up.

BRING: Bedding (sleeping bag, sheets, blanket, pillow), Bible, journal, layers of clothing (i.e. keep an eye on the weather), toiletries, and any specialty tools that can be used for projects.

WHEN: Friday, May 14, 2021 through Sunday, May 16, 2021. Please plan on arriving between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. A formal welcome and worship time will follow dinner.  However, if you would like to come early and get a head start on projects, please let us know, we’d love to have you!  Meals will be served through Sunday lunch.

COVID Protocols: We will be following many of the protocols anticipated to be in place this summer. Each Family will be considered a “cohort” and masks are not required with the family group, including staying overnight in their own cabin.  When with others, outside on the grounds when not socially distanced, masks will be required.  Families will eat in the Dining Hall together, and will be spaced apart from other families.  Camp will have adequate hand washing facilities, and any group worship will occur outside and with ample separation between groups. Temperature checks will be required upon arrival at camp.  [Of course PLEASE don’t come to camp if you are not feeling well!]

You can register for Family Work Weekend here!  We have listed a few possible projects, but what we really need is simply willing hands ready to make some memories!

P.S.  If you’d also like to go to Maine, MRO Work Weekend is June 4-June 6. Contact Seth here for details.
