Recreational Outdoor Center  "The Rock"

Over 800 members of the camp family participated in a brief on-line survey to name the building to replace the old Trip Locker.  By a 3 to 1 margin the favorite name was "Recreational Outdoor Center"  aka "The Rock".

Psalm 18: 1-2
I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

The Miles M. Strodel Recreational Outdoor Center will serve as the starting point for the camp’s extensive tripping program that Miles loved and nurtured during his 40 years at
Brookwoods and Deer Run. This new center will replace the much loved, but worn out Trip Locker.

The Trip Locker is the first building opened up in the morning, and the last closed each day. Each day 75 campers and staff converge on this building for tripping needs alone. It holds all our specialized tripping equipment in addition to food prep and packing for all overnight trips.
Not only is the home base for tripping, it also serves at the athletic locker and storage location for our mountain bikes and mountain boards. As wilderness programs have expanded at camp, it became apparent that the trip locker was not keeping pace with the growth of the program. The design for the new Recreational Outdoor Center includes an updated field kitchen, more storage and easy access for equipment, space for the bike, mountain board and athletic program supplies. The design will be versatile and create space to dry wet gear.
