Windfall Rafting

For years, Moose River Outpost has instructed and inspired youth with its breathtaking array of rugged backwoods trips. Whether it has been white water rafting on the raging waters of the Kennebec River or rock climbing with the huge expanse of Moosehead Lake in the background, our trips have always served to unify groups and to point them toward their Creator.

One of the keys to this ministry focus has been our longstanding partnership with Windfall Rafting, a Christian guide service based near Moose River Outpost in Jackman, ME. Windfall stands as a place where guides are courteous, professional, and open about their Christian faith. Campers at MRO look up to their expert guides, and the guides at Windfall take their status as role models seriously.

In 2009, Moose River Outpost’s summer camp and conference groups made up nearly half of all Windfall’s business. You can imagine our concern when Windfall’s ownership expressed their desire to retire, and consequently sell the ministry, despite its success. The Kennebec River rafting community came very close to losing its only Christian leadership.

We are pleased to report, however, that the founders of Windfall Rafting, Tim and Jim Blake, have worked with us to arrange for Windfall to operate under the leadership of Moose River Outpost. Campers who attend Moose River Outpost will continue to flow down the Kennebec in the care of bright Christian leaders who are from top colleges and universities. Likewise, other guests of Windfall Rafting will now be exposed to the ministry of Moose River Outpost when they choose to book their trip. Hundreds of thrill-seekers will not only experience the rapids in all their glory, but will also have the opportunity to join their guides in recognizing the power of the one who has “measured the waters in the palm of his hand.” (Isaiah 40:12)

Just like always, Moose River Outpost’s staff will focus on providing campers with a safe, fun, environment where they can ask questions and build confidence in their faith. Just like always, the staff at Windfall will receive the best training available and will maintain their spotless safety record. The only change will be the introduction of a special unity of purpose, wherein guides and camp staff will work together to seek Christ, build community, and embrace adventure.
