Elevator Pitch
Bob Strodel, Executive Director
"Raiders of the Lost Ark" is probably one of my all time favorite movies. Regardless of the theological implications of the Ark of the Covenant being buried in Egypt, the movie is filed with heroes, villains and an interesting storyline. Harrison Ford, who portrayed Indiana Jones, has starred in many commercially successful films. A key scene in another Harrison Ford movie, "Working Girl," centered around a 60 second opportunity to speak with the CEO of a company as they rode an elevator up to a critical meeting. (The name "elevator pitch" refers to a presentation of an idea or concept that can be delivered in the span of time of an elevator ride, or in approximately 30 seconds to two minutes, with basic language your grandmother can understand.)
IF I found myself in an elevator with Indian Jones, this would be my “elevator pitch” on why he should send his kids to Brookwoods, Deer Run, or Moose River Outpost.
“Mr. Jones I’m thrilled I have the opportunity to meet you. Elevator rides are quick, and raising your kids is also a very short opportunity. You have one chance to do it right and establish your true legacy. I work at a wonderful organization that will dramatically increase the odds of success for you and Mrs. Jones in your goal to raise quality children of which you can be proud.
We are the largest Christian camping organization in New England, and operate Camp Brookwoods for boys, Camp Deer Run for girls, Moose River Outpost -- an action adventure camp for teens, and Windfall Rafting in Maine.
Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, and we are also members of the Christian Camps and Conference Association. On an annual basis we have over 8,000 campers and guests through our gates; so we know what we are doing and we have been doing it since 1944.
Our mission is to foster vibrant Christian communities located in awe-inspiring outdoor settings where your kids are spiritually transformed through Christ-centered relationships. We accomplish that mission because we hire a quality Christian staff that are great role models for your kids, and we offer extended camping sessions so the relationships between the staff and your kids can flourish. To help make that happen, we provide over 40 different activities for you kids to participate in throughout the camp, from traditional activities such as archery riflery and canoeing, to rocketeering, mountain-boards, paintball and wakeboarding. We will instruct your kids in these areas so they will learn new skills and grow in their self-confidence. Each of our your kids will be in a cabin with 1 other camper and 2 counselors, each cabin will go on an overnight experience in the out-of-doors, perhaps a backpacking trip, canoe trip, whitewater rafting or a night on an empty island. At the New Hampshire camps we have 300 campers and 100 staff, so our camper to staff ratio is pretty good!

Mr. Jones, don’t you want to give your kids experiences that will develop their social and spiritual skills while they are having the time of their life at summer camp? Don’t you want them to be with positive Christian role models to help reinforce what they are getting at home? Don’t you want to give your kids the opportunity to be away from the constant connection to Facebook, cell phones and texting? Don’t you want them to learn new skills that will increase their self-confidence to try new things in the future?
Mr. Jones, don’t wait long to make a decision. Your kids are growing up right before your eyes, and before you know it, they will be out the door.
Thanks for listening Mr. Jones, this is my floor. If you would like to continue our conversation further, please give me a call at the camp office at 603-875-3600.”
