Brookwoods Summer Information - 2008
The Season for 2008 opens on Sunday, June 22 and closes on Saturday, August 16. All boys should arrive at camp not before 1 P.M. and not after 5 P.M. on the opening day of each camping period. If you choose, we can meet your boy at Logan Airport in Boston, or Manchester Airport in New Hampshire, on flights arriving 11 A.M. - 5 P.M. on the opening day of each camp session. There is a $40 fee per camper, each way, for this service.
All Boys Should Be Picked Up between 9 A.M. and 11 A.M. on the closing Saturday of each camp. If you choose, we can transport your boy to Logan Airport in Boston, or Manchester Airport in New Hampshire, for flights departing 11 A.M. - 5 P.M. on the closing day of each camp session. There is a $40 fee per camper, each way, for this service.
Campers should be at least 8 years of age to attend Brookwoods, and they can attend through age 16. Those 17 and 18 are eligible to apply for a position in the Leadership Development Program. Campers are placed into cabins based on their age. This tends to group campers of similar size, ability and interests. We recommend the four-week camp for campers age 12 and above. The campers, staff, and parents have found that four weeks provides the best skill learning and mature social, emotional, and spiritual growth which our program seeks to accomplish. Each month is a complete program entity.
Camp Handbook with information about clothing needs, transportation, medical forms, housing and motels will be mailed in March 2008 to all confirmed campers.
Camp Store. Candy, soda, slushies and postcards will be provided to regular campers at the camp store and will be included as part of the tuition price. Clothing and souvenirs will be available for purchase on Incoming and Outgoing days, or prior to camp through the camp catalog. Campers should bring their own stationary and stamps.
Early Departures, Dismissals, Arrivals. There are no reductions from the fee for a camper arriving late or leaving early. In case of withdrawal for prolonged illness or unavoidable emergencies, the parents and the camp will share the loss. Brookwoods reserves the right to dismiss, without refund, any camper whose influence is not positive to the camp family. Non-prescription drugs, gambling, use of alcohol or tobacco are strictly prohibited. Violation of these prohibitions constitute grounds for dismissal without refunds. Likewise the camp reserves the right to decline the application of any camper who, according to the Directors discretion, is not a desirable associate for other campers. Parents accept these conditions in signing the application.
Health Form. All campers are required to have a physical examination prior to coming to camp certifying that they are free from communicable diseases and are physically able to participate in a strenuous camp program. The medical form will be provided as part of the Handbook, and the exam must be conducted within the 12 months prior to their arrival at camp.
General Policies. Christian Camps and Conferences, Inc. has policies instituted to help each camper derive as much as possible from his or her camping experience. In order for our staff to give your child the individual attention to which he or she is entitled, we have set our standards high. We have found through many summers of camping that by asking our parents to cooperate, each Brookwoods camper will have a better summer, no one will feel that he is being denied privileges or granted privileges, and our time and efforts will be devoted to the campers health, good programming and general welfare. Your cooperation with our policies and procedures will be deeply appreciated.
Camper Uniforms. One camp shirt is required for each camper for use on Sundays and special trips. Shirts and souvenirs will be available for purchase through our on-line store catalog or on Incoming and Outgoing Days at the camp store.
Camper’s Belongings. All articles, including shoes and athletic equipment, must be marked with the camper’s name. Every season, good clothes are left lying around camp. Every effort is made by the respective Camps to send home personal belongings with your camper. Campers are urged to keep track of their belongings and are given the opportunity to claim lost and found articles at regular intervals. Please refrain from bringing expensive clothes to camp. As well, do not send your child with a cell phone, iPod, knife, or money as there is no need. The camps will not accept responsibility for lost or stolen articles. Unclaimed clothing will be donated to a charitable organization 30 days after the close of camp.
Laundry is for the four-week camping period only and is included in the tuition. Clothes are sent out three times during the four-week period. Be sure that all clothing is labeled with your child's name. Two-week campers need to bring enough clothes for the duration. Those in the Leadership Development Program will have opportunities to do their own laundry at their own expense.
Luggage. We strongly recommend that parents purchase duffel bags for camp belongings rather than footlockers. Duffel bags can be stored easily, are easy to pack and handle.
Tuition for 2008 includes a $200 registration fee for two-week camps and $400 registration fee for four-week camps. A $200 deposit is required with application for the Leadership Development Program. TUITION IS PAYABLE IN FULL BY APRIL 15 unless other arrangements with the Director have been previously made.
Horseback Riding is optional and will be limited to the first 35 campers (10 years or older) to register for each camping period. One make-up lesson is available per two-week period. Rates are $220 per month or $120 for two weeks. Riding boots or approved shoes are required. Additional instruction and a permission slip will be sent out with the Camp Handbook.
International Families should contact the Camp prior to sending in their registration fee. Campers must have enough English language skills to allow for a safe and responsive experience while attending camp. An additional assessment of $200 will be required for all International Families with a resident address outside continental North America. Families from Mexico and Canada will be required to pay an assessment of $100.
Financial Assistance. Several partial grants-in-aid may be available for deserving campers. Additional information and application form will be sent upon request. All information provided is kept strictly confidential, the form is easy to complete, and we encourage you to apply early.
Referrals. For each new family enrolled through a currently registered former camper's initial and direct introduction (first contact), there will be a $50 rebate per camper when you make the introduction to us: not when the new applicant or family makes the first contact. Referral rebate will be tendered by check at the close of the camping season upon receipt of a Referral Request form. Requests need to be received by December 31, 2008.
Siblings. A $50 credit will be extended for each enrolled sibling in the normal camp program, or at one of our other camps. This does not apply to the sibling enrolled in the Leadership Development Program.
Overnight trips are included in the basic tuition, and campers are expected to participate in these activities with their cabin group. The oldest groups of campers will be participating in adventure activities such as extended hikes, ropes course experiences and white water canoeing.
Cancellations and Changes in Session. It is our desire that every bed at camp be filled. We cannot serve an empty bunk. The camp may not be able to accommodate changes in session attendance after February 29th due to space allocations for two and four-week campers. Reduction in session after this date will only be possible if positions are available, and any waiting list campers have been satisfied.
Split Camp Discounts are given to campers who attend sessions at Moose River Outpost and either Brookwoods or Deer Run. The discount is a minimum of $400, and is calculated by multiplying the number of weeks attended by $100. For example, a camper attending Moose River Outpost for 2 weeks and a session at Brookwoods for 4 weeks, will receive a $600 discount.
Refund Policy. The registration fee is required with the Application and is non refundable after February 29th. Tuition is refundable after April 15th only if the vacated space at camp is filled through the Waiting List or newly registered campers.
2008 Fees. Brookwoods tuition covers all the usual expenses at camp, with exceptional services noted. Included are: registration, the regular camp program, room and board and snacks, overnights and day trips, canoe trips and laundry.
